Tasting Notes

You finally made it. The lavish cabin of that punk band’s Bombardier. While they wrap up their encore, all elderberry overdrive and inky cracked-pepper vocals, you’re reveling in the Italian leather luxury, steak au poivre, rosemary-tinged Bufala Negras, plum tart sprinkled with sea salt, mahogany-trimmed Bang & Olufsen sound system, full of blackened berry bass lines and rapid-fire hi-hats. And when they finally step aboard off the rain-slick tarmac, all you have to do is convince them you’re the co-pilot.

95 Points, Wine Advocate

The 2021 Larner Syrah/Grenache comes from vines planted in 1998. It is composed of co-fermented Syrah (64%) and Grenache (36%) and was matured for 24 months in 95% new French oak. It has pure, detailed scents of red and black currant, wild mint, violet, gravel dust and meaty undertones. The palate is surprisingly approachable, its concentrated yet nuanced fruit framed by supple, powdery tannins. It has rounded freshness and a long finish laced with new oak spices. 361 cases were made.

95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

From a great site in the Ballard Canyon region of Santa Barbara County, the 2021 Larner has a darker core of berry fruits as well as beautiful peppery herbs, violets, graphite, and loamy earth nuances. It’s balanced, medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Drink bottles over the coming decade. The blend is 64% Syrah and 36% Grenache, aged two years in 95% new barrels.
