Tasting Notes

Like you always say, it’s not a private-school fundraiser until someone throws a punch. To the great dismay of the superintendent, the scrum is upending trays of red velvet macarons and auction ready gift baskets. Benefactors in chocolate-lapelled jackets grappling over pepper-plum tortes. Punch-soaked valedictorians wielding cognac lamb chops like hatchets. Dark-fruit haymakers full of menace and mille-feuille. And by the time the smoke has settled and they’re searching for the provocateur, you’re already in the parking lot, sipping bourbon with the custodians.

The 2021 Milk & Honey is a blend of 72% Tempranillo, 19% Syrah, 7% Mourvèdre and 2% Petit Verdot matured for 18 months in 84% new French oak. It has slowly blossoming scents of blackcurrant, coffee, chocolate, aniseed and garrigue. The full-bodied palate has youthfully coiled, mineral-laced fruit. It has chalky tannins, bright acidity and a long, savory finish. It will benefit from a few years in bottle. 1,030 cases were made.
